Happy 2024 everyone! We at Darkbright hope you all had an awesome holiday and beginning to the year. Speaking of holidays, that’s related to what we want to share a bit with you now – the holiday game build.
As a quick refresher, game builds are specific iterative versions of a video game during development. Imagine you have a research paper to hand in for university: some of us inevitably procrastinate and come up with something last minute (looking at you PurpleSnow), but quality and the grades inevitably take a hit. On the contrary, breaking down the paper by key sections, and finishing bit by bit every week is much more likely to yield a better result – and avoid all the last-minute stress and grammar mistakes you have to fix. Game builds are that second planned approach.
Game builds are important for testing, quality assurance, collaboration, and perhaps most crucially, they mark milestones through the process. A build usually comes with a couple goals – what features to implement, assessing progress, what playtesting successes there are to look for, and what to improve for the next iteration. Clear builds allow teams to assess progress and implement work in an organized fashion, providing snapshots that aid in refining the game until launch date.
So! With all that said. Let’s take a smol look at the holiday build we were able to put together at the end of 2023. For the build we focused on a few key things:
Can you guess what’s happening with the character? 😁
Can you guess what’s happening with the character? 😁

Important note as usual – builds are iterative and in-progress, so there’s always more to be done. Now, we’re in 2024, and full-speed ahead, using previous builds including the holiday build as pointers for what we’re on next.
